Bright sunshine and many interested guests: Together with the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s Alliance for Biodiversity, Quarzwerke demonstrated at its Frechen site how economics and ecology can work together in very concrete ways. Not as a theoretical concept, but in a way that could be seen, heard, and experienced firsthand on site.
A few weeks after Ceramitec 2026, we now have the opportunity to reflect on the trade show and its impact with some perspective.
The event once again highlighted the importance of direct, face-to-face interaction in the ceramics industry and related fields. Especially in an environment characterized by technical requirements and customized solutions, in-person dialogue remains a key factor for successful collaboration and sustainable partnerships.
One of our subsidiaries is turning 125. And we, as the parent company, are immensely proud. What began with the development of kaolin deposits in the Upper Palatinate has, over more than a century, evolved into an internationally active group of companies. Technical progress, entrepreneurial courage, and the ability to continually adapt to changing conditions have shaped the history of AKW (Amberger Kaolinwerke Eduard Kick GmbH & Co. KG) to this day.

This question hung unspoken in the air as new employees of Amberger Kaolinwerke gathered for their information day. The goal: to gain a deeper understanding of our raw materials kaolin, quartz, and feldspar—and what they make possible.
For decades, quartz sands from Haltern have stood for the highest quality in the foundry industry. However, with increasing requirements – such as new binding systems and complex casting molds – the need for tailor-made solutions has grown. The answer: ready-made sands.
Our site in Haltern am See was dedicated to occupational safety for two days. Nine supervisors from the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the raw materials and chemical industry (BG RCI) accepted the invitation of the MIRO industry association’s occupational safety committee to delve deeper into the world of quartz sand extraction.
