Quarzwerke wins MIRO Sustainability Award in the Economy category
We are delighted to have once again been awarded the prestigious sustainability prize by the German Federal Association MIRO. This honor underscores our ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
The laudatory speech stated: “Quarzwerke GmbH is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to reduce its CO₂ emissions through the use of renewable energies. A central component of this is the expansion of photovoltaic and, in the future, wind power plants. In recent years, for example, PV systems with a total output of up to 6.5 MWp have been installed in Haltern and Frechen. In a second expansion stage, various storage media are also to be integrated at the sites.”
As our CO₂ manager Nils Kavermann was unable to attend the award ceremony in Berlin, the corporate communications team accepted the award on his behalf. This team had also applied for the sustainability award in the “Communication” category.
The red-shimmering stone trophy made of rhyolite has now found its place of honor in Frechen.
Our successes and future goals
The transformation towards greater sustainability is a path that Quarzwerke embarked upon years ago and has been strategically pursuing ever since. One milestone was the commissioning of a floating PV system with a capacity of 3 MWp at the Haltern plant in 2021. This innovative system has already been awarded the German Solar Prize.
We are proud of the progress we have made so far and remain fully committed to our sustainability goals.
outlook
As winners of the German industry association award, we will now automatically participate in the competition for the sustainability award of the European association UEPG. The award ceremony will take place in Brussels in November this year – we are excited and looking forward to this challenge!
